In 2010–2011, I spent almost two years studying, reading, listening and writing about an international trend that I feared was only going to escalate.

Sadly, I was right.

This work is now six years old, but the recent events in the USA and the Muslim ban (on seven Muslim-majority countries) enacted by President Trump has made this all too real again.

Below is a detailed analysis of what I believe to be the political and legal reactions that Muslims are experiencing in contemporary Western countries against the backdrop of shifting and narrowing definitions of pluralism and democracy.

It examines the political and cultural mood of countries in Europe and North America, analyses the social realities for Muslims in the West, explores the concept of human rights in Islamic sources, and considers various opinions€“ including Muslim voices “on the relationship between Islam and the West.

Happy to discuss this with anyone genuinely interested in this topic, and what’s currently happening in the USA and all around the world.
